What does a battery protector do?
A battery protector continuously monitors the voltage of your house battery and automatically switches off all connected loads as soon as the voltage drops below an adjustable threshold. This prevents deep discharge – completely draining a battery – which is by far the most common cause of premature wear in AGM batteries. As soon as the battery is sufficiently recharged, the BatteryProtect automatically switches the loads back on.
Why is deep discharge so harmful?
An AGM battery is designed for a maximum discharge of 50%. If it is consistently discharged deeper, its capacity will rapidly decrease, and the battery will last much shorter. A battery that is regularly discharged to almost 0% sometimes lasts only a quarter as long as a battery that is used correctly. The BatteryProtect automatically prevents this.
Standard or Smart – what's the difference?
The standard BatteryProtect has an adjustable threshold value via a switch on the device – simple and without an app. The Smart variant has built-in Bluetooth and works with the VictronConnect app. Through the app, you can precisely set the threshold values, view the status, and receive notifications if the protection has intervened.
What amperage do I need?
Add up the maximum current demand of all devices powered via the BatteryProtect. Also, consider peak power – devices with a motor draw two to three times their nominal current at startup. When in doubt, choose a larger size.

Heb ik een accubeschermer nodig als ik een lithium accu heb?
Bij een lithium accu met ingebouwde BMS is een aparte accubeschermer doorgaans niet nodig — de BMS bewaakt de cellen zelf. Bij AGM is een accubeschermer wel aan te raden, omdat AGM geen ingebouwde beveiliging heeft en diepontlading de levensduur sterk verkort. Bij lithium zonder BMS is een accubeschermer essentieel.
De BatteryProtect is niet geschikt als laadschakelaar — hij mag alleen in de verbruikerslijn worden geplaatst, niet in de laadlijn.
Op welke spanning schakelt de BatteryProtect uit?
De uitschakelspanning is instelbaar. Voor een 12V AGM-accu adviseren we circa 11,8–12,0V, wat overeenkomt met een ontdieping van ongeveer 50%. Voor lithium ligt de uitschakelspanning hoger, typisch rond 12,8V. De exacte waarde hangt af van het accutype en de fabrieksspecificaties.
Stel de inschakelspanning altijd hoger in dan de uitschakelspanning. Zo voorkomt de BatteryProtect dat hij snel achter elkaar in- en uitschakelt bij een accu die net op de drempelwaarde zit.
Kan ik de BatteryProtect combineren met een accumonitor?
Ja, en dat is de aanbevolen combinatie. De accumonitor geeft inzicht in de laadstatus en het verbruik. De BatteryProtect zorgt voor automatische bescherming als vangnet. Bij de Smart varianten zijn beide te integreren in het Victron ecosysteem via de VictronConnect app.
Sluit de accubeschermer aan op alle verbruikers behalve de laadregelaar en het bewakingssysteem — die moeten altijd stroom kunnen ontvangen, ook als de beveiliging heeft ingegrepen.
Wat is het verschil tussen de standaard en de Smart variant?
De standaard BatteryProtect heeft een schakelaar op het apparaat voor het instellen van de drempelwaarde. De Smart variant heeft ingebouwde Bluetooth en werkt via de VictronConnect app — instelbaar op 0,01V nauwkeurig, met realtime status en meldingen als de beveiliging ingrijpt. Smart is de keuze bij een moeilijk bereikbare montageplaats of als je meer controle wilt.
Beide varianten zijn beschikbaar in 65A, 100A en 220A. Kies ruim boven de totale maximale stroomvraag van je verbruikers, inclusief piekvermogen.
